Foundation for production

Water Resources Development

Water storage, boreholes and solar pumping for dry counties.

Development challenge

Recurring drought and unreliable rainfall keep smallholder production, livestock survival and household water access precarious across Kenya's ASAL counties.

HDIC approach

HDIC designs modular earth dams, water pans, boreholes and solar-pumped distribution matched to farmer cooperatives, irrigation clusters and livestock offtake — with community operation-and-maintenance built in from day one.

Key interventions

  • Hydrological and catchment assessment
  • Earth-dam and water-pan construction
  • Solar-pumped abstraction and distribution
  • Community governance and O&M training

Expected outcomes

  • Reliable water for irrigated production and livestock
  • Reduced climate vulnerability for target households
  • Foundation for productive value chains
